And the essence ... for the readers of our blog...

It's beautiful free verse...
An appeal from the MOON(Chandra) to the EARTH(Bhuvi)...

Having praised her unparalleled beauty (of which she is proud) and undeterred enthusiasm which make her forever youthful... He asks, if he, in his tranquility and beauty surpassing that of the other heavenly bodies, should still be unhappy and under-satisfied about something?

He seeks an explanation... Why does the lady's world revolve around the SUN(Surya), who is haughty and keeps a distance from her? And that, when his many romantic interests go around him all day long...

"Who have I, but you", he asks...
"Can't you be my soul mate?"

Megha, I conveniently leave the translation-section to you ;-))...and you do a good job at tht always!

Wow!!! Thanks Megha for the wonderful translation else I wouldn't have ever been able to read this one. This is a great poem. Great way of putting Earth as Moon's soulmate while earth revolves around the sun among many other. Very well thought. I think this happens in real life as well. Don't you think so :-)

Always !!!! Stuck in the wrong JOB ... Out with the wrong GUY/GIRL .....

Ok, I'm exagerating...but happens :)

I think you are not exaggerating about the guy/girl thing. This happens all the time :-)

But how can this poem be related to one's job? Can a job be a soul mate for a person?
May be you are correct. A lot of people these days are spending their lives circling around jobs that are not meant for them, while there might be a perfect job waiting for them some where :-)

Hm..thats the power of reality! When life strikes, you are bound to follow the flow...not always you can follow your dreams(job or whatever!).

Ahh...looks like we have hindi filmi types 'triangle love story' , the earth revolving arnd the sun and the moon arnd the earth.
As far as following ur dreams:

Your dreams u can always follow,
If in mediocrity u don't want to wallow,
The path to your dream will not be easy or nice,
As with all things , what you want has a price.

So take courage, and lift up your cross,
The task is uphill, the path slippery covered with moss,
But if you dont have the guts, cant bear the pain,
Then 'adjust madkolli', shutup and don't complain !

I think of Howard Roark in the novel Fountainhead when I think of such things.

Gurugale ... every now and then we - insignificant people - walking on the narrow fence of idealism ... lean over or miss a step ...

Swalpa sdjust maadkoli...

But true... that's why books like that are written... to rekindle the spirit...to inspire and to give perspective

nim ajji... naan yen adjust madothu ?
If u took offense when none was meant, go jump into a well.
I run into ppl who complain and whine and crib and it irritates me no end.
If you want something, go get it. If you can't then you are either stupid or you don't have the guts, the b***s etc to follow thru' ....and then we sit and complain to no end and make excuses on how we cudn't achieve wat we wanted or get wat we wanted or marry who we wanted.
We hate to look at ourselves critically or blame ourselves for wat we are but rather want to blame life, reality, society, parental pressure etc.

PS: Spoorthy, my comments are not for wat you said or meant or wrote...its just that I like picking fights with Megha :-)
Locking horns with this cow(Taurean) is entertaining...makes me feel like a matador in a bull fight...hehehe

Megha said...

Yeah yeah! Keep trying...

But.... one question... why are you cribbing about people who crib?

Someone badly affecting you or what?

Megha said...

And horns with a cow a? he he he he he

Hmm as Prem said, ದೈರ್ಯ ಇದ್ರೆ ಚಂದ್ರನತರ ಒಂದುದಿನನಾದ್ರು ದೈರ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಸೂರ್ಯನ block ಮಾಡಿ ತನ್ನ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ವ್ಯಕ್ತ ಪಡಿಸಲಿ .... if she accepts fine , otherwise just say move on man…

Just to let u all knw the background for this poem-

I wrote this for a cartoon-poetry contest for an online Kannada magazine years ago. The cartoon shows a Moon handing over a letter to Earth as Sun looks on. I spun off this poem with those leads! Im glad so many of u cud draw parallels to life from this poem :-)
